Is the circus in town? Nadine Coyle sported a giant afro, thigh-high boots and a purple corset as she performed at The Splash Club in New York

She's clearly determined to make a success of her solo career, despite the fact her debut single Insatiable sold less than 117 copies.

So Nadine Coyle could be forgiven for pulling out all the stops for her performance at New York's Splash Club.

However, the 26-year-old looked like she should be part of a circus as she took to the stage with her hair teased into a huge afro, wearing a pair of black thigh-high boots, knickers, purple corset and tiara.

Unique style: The new look is a drastic departure from Nadine's usual appearance, but she clearly wanted to make an impact as she performed her new single Sweetest High

Nadine appeared at the club to promote her debut solo album Insatiable and her newest single Sweetest High.

It was claimed recently that Girls Aloud star Nadine had turned to former Spice Girls singer Mel B for advice on how to make it in America after proving less than successful in the UK.

A source said: 'Nadine Is desperate to prove herself outside Girls Aloud. But nobody has heard of her in the US.

Delighted: The very bronzed singer waves at her excited fans as she leaves the stage

Svelte: Nadine showed off her tiny figure in the outfit, which included a purple tiara and elbow-length gloves

'Mel has had reality shows and came second in Dancing with the Stars. Nadine wants that kind of success.'

While Nadine is hoping for solo success, she is also set to rejoin Girls Aloud at the end of the year after their 12-month hiatus is over.

However, bandmate Nicola Roberts said recently that she and Nadine, along with Sarah Harding, Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh, will have to reconsider their 'musical direction' following their solo careers.

What a difference: Nadine's heavy make-up and huge frizzy hair was in sharp contrast to her usual look

She said: 'I suppose we would have to get together and take each person’s individual influence into account and really summarise that.'

Nicola added she can't wait to be reunited with the girls after their break.

She said: 'The best bit is just really being in each other’s company every day and all of the fun we have.

'The dramas that go on and the craziness of being in the Girls Aloud dressing room - it’s just so much fun.'

Nadine's appearance at the Splash Club comes ahead of her re-releasing a new version of Insatiable later this year.

Talking about trying to make it in America, Nadine said: 'It's a challenge! You've got to come, you've got to work hard. I remember the days beginning at 16, 17 years old in Girls Aloud.

'Nobody knew us, nobody cared. We'd do university shows and people threw beers cans at us.

'All sorts of crazy things! We had to work really hard to get where we did.'

Nadine Coyle Almost Killed By Poisonous Gas

Nadine Coyle Almost Killed By Poisonous GasNadine Coyle and her family almost died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The 'Insatiable' singer feels "lucky" to be alive after a cracked boiler allowed the deadly gas to seep into her Los Angeles mansion, with the problem only discovered four months later when her elder sister Charmaine - who was staying at the property with the Girls Aloud star's parents Lillian and Niall and youngest sibling Rachael - fell seriously ill.

Nadine said: "We were sick as dogs from the gas for weeks and weeks. My oldest sister got so ill we all thought she was dying.

"It was the worst time of my life. We're lucky to still be here."

Nadine, her fiance Jason Bell and the rest of her family were warned they could have died if the leak had not been discovered by a gas worker, and the singer admits the months before the cause of their ill-health was determined was the worst period of her life.

She told Sunday Life magazine: "We all felt like we had really bad flu. My older sister got so ill we thought she was dying.

"It was the worst time of my life, being ill while looking at everyone I cared about getting sick as well.

"It turned out the boiler was cracked all the way up. Everyone was shocked when we found out because it's so serious."

The Irish-born beauty has now moved out of the property.
